Keyword research is very important when it comes to building a successful internet business. This research should be conducted before the purchasing of a domain name or deciding on products or services to sell.

The reason that this research is so important is that a website is only as good as the amount of targeted traffic it receives.

Many people make the mistake of deciding that they want to sell a certain product without doing any keyword research first.

They then set up the website and start building traffic to the website. When the resulting web traffic is not what is hoped for they wonder what went wrong.

There are many products to sell, but if only a small amount of people are interested there is not going to be much profit in the business.

Researching keywords will help you discover what people are actually looking for when they search the internet.

It will also tell you how many competitors there are in this niche. Some people pick niches that are much too ambitious for a new website.

Niches such as insurance and weight loss are extremely competitive and already very crowded. If you are planning on advertising in the insurance niche with Google Adwords it will cost about 30 per click-through.

A better strategy is to find something that people are searching for and then see how many competitors there are. If there are not too many competitors it is a good niche to get into.

There should be at least several thousand searches a month for the keyword or phrase. Then find a product that can help people solve what they are searching for.
