Google OptimizationGoogle optimization is the process of making sure Google knows what your web pages are about. Here are some of the biggest signals Google considers when reading your site.Making sure you get your main keywords in place will help ensure you rank where you deserve to rank. The Title of Your Page The title tag of a page is one of the strongest signals you can send Google from your own site. Their algorithm considers the title to be the summary of the page, so you absolutely must get your main keyword into it - and preferably close to the front of it too. How often do you search for a term and have a number one result that does not have the keyword in it? Not often. The ALT Tags of Your Images The ALT tag of an image was initially intended to be some text to show if a person's internet connection was too slow to download pictures. This is not a problem for the most part anymore, but Google has found it very relevant when attempting to determine the information on a page. Be sure to put at least one image into your post, and be sure to use the ALT tag of that image to put your keyword in. For that matter, putting the keyword in the file name of the picture isn't a bad idea either. The Header Tags of the Page The H1 tags are usually used for the title of the page, but there may be some small benefit to using your keywords in the H2 or H3 tags elsewhere on the page. This effect is not as strong as it once was, but it is still considered something to think about. Finally, make sure you use your keyword once or twice throughout the body of your text. Do not keyword stuff, but make sure it fits naturally. These signals will ensure that Google knows what you are talking about on your web page. |
